Abstract
In this paper a linguistic analysis of the term “rhythm” frequently used in sport is made. It is argued that even when this term is used often by sportsmen, by coaches and other professionals in the sport area, “rhythm” means different things and a single understanding of this concept is not guaranteed. From the psychological point of view, there are two things to be done. First, try to find out what kind of functional thing the athlete or the coach is talking about when he uses this concept. Second, not be controlled by the term but by the type of
psychological behavior that is involved in the use of that term.
The paper states the need of considering linguistic and theoretical psychological analysis, and concretely the so called “field model” in the explanation of psychological events that occur in sport and also in the communication between athletes and coaches.
