Abstract
The attack-defense relations in volleyball have been problematic since the origins of the sport: the attackers make a game too fast for the possibilities of the defenses. The aim of this study is to know the influence of the number of attackers in the accomplishment of the block in volleyball. An observational instrument was created to carry out a systematic registry of the actions of attack and defense of the net. The raw data have been sequentially analyzed using SDIS-GSEQ 4.1.2 for Windows. We pretend to find stable game patterns in the situations where the attackers are in offensive inferiority, numerical equality and offensive superiority. Results show stable game structures in defensive actions. These patterns are conditioned to the level of the teams as well as by the defensive position of the setter.
