Abstract
Taekwondo has changed greatly over the past 20 years. Its Korean origins, associated with asynchronous terminology evolution, have contributed to the lack of uniformity in the definition and classification of certain terms used in training and competition. This paper presents a classification of the actions used in high-level competition taekwondo combat while at the same time it puts forward the functional structure of tactical action. As a whole it is the result of a systematic process in which tactical elements are clearly interrelated. In addition, it also establishes some specific terminology that can be used in various areas of the sport, and may become a reference point for other sports, in order to structure and systematize extant terminology.
