From transport vessels to nautical sports.
Since the oldest of times men have used different types of vessels: rafts, hollow tree trunks,… driven with poles or paddles to navigate through rivers, lakes, and seas. Bit by bit these primitive vessels have evolved until we obtain kayaks (in eskimo language, men boats), canoes, and sailboats (which first appeared in the Nile river, Egypt 5500 before Christ). We can distinguish between paddle propelled vessels and those propelled by the force of the wind through sails conveniently positioned.
Undoubtly, these primitve devices for aquatic movement can represent a magnificent experience for our scholars. Kids must know the two great environments of navigation (paddles and sails) and adapt to each of them. Navigation in its multiple forms yield technical and environmental knowledge and extraordinarily develops the relation, affective.emotional, and decision dimensions. Our pedagogic proposal would be structured in the following stages: 1)Search of materials, modeling and constructions of primitive vessels, and other alternatives devised by the students themselves. 2) Practical introduction to paddle propelled boats. 3) Knowledge and partice of sailboats (good usage of the wind to accomplish a propulsion and direction of the ship).
