Abstract

This paper examines the effects of a session of physical and sport activity and another for body expression on mood in a group of 92 teenagers from the city of Malaga (Spain) aged between 14 and 16 (M=14.87, SD = 0.79). This paper follows a quasi-experimental methodology with a pre-post design using non-equivalent groups in which there are two experimental groups, one of which did a session of racquet sports and the other aerobics. We used the Profile of Mood States (POMS – McNair, Lorr, & Droppleman, 1971) questionnaire to analyse the following factors: tension-anxiety, depression-melancholy, anguish-hostility-anger, vigour-activity, fatigue-inertia and confusion-orientation. The results indicate that mood improves in both experimental groups after the intervention, showing a significant effect on those groups who do physical activity.
